World’s 50 Best Universities For 2018: US Heavyweights MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Caltech, and UChicago Tops

In all, eighteen American universities have been named among the top 50 best in the world, according to the UK education specialists QS 2018 World University Rankings. US heavyweight Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has topped the rankings for a 6th year running.

Stanford University was a close 2nd, and Harvard University trailed just behind, followed by the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). The next four were British institutions – Cambridge (5th), Oxford (6th), University College London (7th) and Imperial College London in 8th. The University of Chicago takes 9th place and ETH Zurich comes in 10th.

Universities were being evaluated according to the following 6 metrics: international student ratio (5%), international faculty radio (5%), employee reputation (10%), citations per faculty (20%), faculty/student ratio (20%), and academic reputation (40%). Surveyed more than 75,000 academics and more than 40,000 employers.
