51 Countries Where International Tourists Outnumber Local Residents

So, when it comes to international inbound tourists as a percentage of population, there are 51 countries where tourists outnumber local residents, according to the numbers crunched by London’s The Daily Telgraph.

Andorra, a small country nestled between Spain and France in the Pyrenees Mountains, took the top spot, which received more than 2.36 million international tourists in 2014, despite having a population of fewer than 70,000.

That works out at 33.5 tourists per resident.

Andorra was followed by Macau, the world’s largest casino hub (24.8 tourists per resident) and then three Caribbean destinations: the British Virgin Islands (12.8 tourists per resident), Turks and Caicos (10.4 tourists per resident), and Aruba (10.3 tourists per resident).

Using 2014 figures from the World Bank, the newspaper divided each country’s total number of international inbound tourists by its population to come up with the list.

Note: Please keep in mind that the Vatican City is not included in the list. As it doesn’t appear in the World Bank’s database, the newspaper points out, but with population of only 842 and annual international inbound tourists numbering around 5 million, it gets 6,000 tourists per citizen.
