How Pensioners Plan To Spend Their Retirement: Top 40 Life ambitions For Over-65s?

Dame Judi Dench

Writing a best-selling novel, learning to fly, traveling the world, enjoying a cruise, learning a language, and plans to fall in love are among the retired population’s top-40 most favoured bucket list items, according to a new research.

A new thrill-seeking “bucket list” of items is compiled by YouGov, on behalf of Centra Pulse — more than 2,000 people aged 65 and over were asked to rate a wish list of 40 life ambitions, they want to do before they die.

Dame Judi Dench, the Oscar-winning actress, is among a handful of celebrities backing the campaign.  The 79-year-old actress, who suffers from macular degeneration – an age-related condition leading to loss of vision – disclosed that she tries to learn a new poem or word every day to keep her mind active.

Wendy Darling, managing director of Centra Pulse, said: “It shows that most will not be thinking of giving up their independence any time soon as they think about embarking on world trips and take up new hobbies.

“That’s why we’re urging older people not to forget about the support out there which will help them hold on to their independence for longer both inside and outside of the home.”
