Rambler Media plans to bid for AOL’s ICQ instant-messaging service

Rambler Media, the internet media and services group which operates, on-line newspaper ‘’,plans to bid for AOL’s [[AOL]] ICQ instant-messaging service . Other properties owned by Rambler Media include the leading online Russian language news publisher ‘’ (, product comparison website ‘’ (, internet catalogue and navigation system ‘Top 100’ and contextual advertising company ‘Begun’.

Rambler Media works with AOL since the summer of 2005, under which Rambler has the exclusive right to sell ads for the Russian-speaking audience of ICQ.

Yandex, Russia’s largest search engine, South African media giant Naspers, and Russian investment group Digital Sky Technologies (, “” etc.), are also interested in acquiring ICQ.

ICQ is an online media company providing communication tools, content and services to an online community of millions of users worldwide. ICQ was established in 1996 under the name Mirabilis, is now wholly owned by AOL LLC. [[AOL]]. ICQ took the internet by storm.
